The new, viewer-oriented set design for the ZDF programme WISO combines a clear design concept with a modular, flexible structure.

The challenge

To develop a new studio set design for this classic amongst consumer magazines.

Our approach

A modular design that transfers the spectator-oriented brand core of the format into the room with a clear design language.‍

Skills

Design

THE DEFINING MATERIAL OF THE NEW STUDIO IS CONCRETE, WHOSE HAPTICS STANDS FOR THE URBAN EVERYDAY RELEVANCE OF THE PROGRAMME'S THEMES.

The result is a sculptural set of five layered modules which, through the use of media technology, gives the room depth gradation and allows numerous camera angles. In addition, the modularity of the studio enables efficient setup and dismantling in the fast-moving world of television.

“TV sets today are much more than decorative accessories and background for the presenters. Rather, they are to be understood as explanatory spaces with a sovereign design for better conveying of the topics. The studio design is a contribution to strengthening the brand identity of ZDF across all channels”.

Every module integrates different media.

Thus manifold backdrops and changes of color are created for various usage scenarios such as live broadcasts, interviews, talks and moderation. For seamless transitions between social media content a dedicated social media display in portrait orientation has been developed.

The new set interprets the on-air design language and elements.

Especially the diagonal elements derived from the W-shape convey a modern and distinguished appearance. The new on-air design was coined by Cape Rock from Amsterdam.
