A space for experience, museum and hotspot for culture in one: The Museum of Modern Electronic Music (MOMEM) is located in the heart of Frankfurt.

The challenge

To create not only a home for the variety of different forms of electronic music, but also a unique experience.

Our approach

A public space that becomes a place of actively lived subculture with museum content, interactive exhibits and workshops.

Skills

Design, communication, implementation

This feedback confirmed the enthusiasm about a museum for electronic music and the necessity of MOMEM – in the middle of Frankfurt am Main.

The contents of the museum was celebrated with an open air concert: Sven Väth and Franziska Berns provided musical accompaniment to the opening on April 6. With the MOMEM, another cultural component was added to Frankfurt's Hauptwache and the location was revitalised on many levels.

"Now the time has finally come. The MOMEM has become reality. Everything that remains to be done is to carefully polish this jewel. As a contribution to the redefinition of Frankfurt's downtown. As a refuge, laboratory and 'Mecca' for new electronic world music and as an interdisciplinary melting pot for music, design, fashion, art and society."

In the heart of the Main metropolis, a hotspot for young cultural events has been created that is more than just a museum exhibition venue ...

... in fact, an experiential space dedicated – for the first time worldwide – to the diverse, global electronic culture and the performative power of music.

The digital-analogue exhibition concept focuses on the experience: a “spatial sampler” was created, a space constantly re-edited from set pieces of electronic culture – and thus a scenography for electronic aspects of life: fashion, club culture, instruments, sound and artist archives with over 20,000 records are staged in a multimedia and interactive way on 500 square metres.

The design also includes the memorable corporate identity, which covers everything from the appearance to the communication strategy.

Even at night, outside opening hours, MOMEM continues to broadcast: the glass front of the museum becomes an informative screen that can be played with multimedia around the clock. MOMEM was deliberately created in a city whose unique socio-political and cultural history has produced important DJs, record labels and clubs since the 1970s.
