The new studio design provides the ideal stage for winter sports from all over the world - far removed from the broadcasting venues, but still up close and personal.

The challenge

To communicate the atmosphere of fascinating winter sports events and snowy ski resorts, despite limited filming possibilities on location.

Our approach

A hybrid studio design that transports white winter landscapes and winter sports feeling via green screen and an AR layer.

Skills

Concept, design, TV set design, spatial development ZDF sports formats

In the 2020/21 season, biathlon, ski flying and alpine skiing cannot be broadcast from full arenas as usual with large teams.

In order to give the viewers the feeling of being close to the events, we designed several TV sets, from which live broadcasts take place. The winter sports areas are then broadcast into the studio in Mainz and into the viewers‘ living rooms via green screen and AR layer.

The design of the TV set is based on the studio design we developed for the ZDF sports studio.

Thus, the architecture reflects the brand identity (A new TV set design for ZDF Sport) and the on-air design gives the broadcasts visual consistency and a high recognition value.

Three broadcast sets of different sizes have been created to allow parallel recordings and smooth changes between different events.

In addition, there is a mobile set for short-term use. With minor modifications, the sets can be adapted to other sports, such as handball and basketball, and thus can continue to be used after the end of the winter sports season.
